Only five years after getting married, Charles and Diana turned out not to be a right fit after all. We say ‘only’, because in the end their marriage lasted 15 years. There was a 13 year age gap between the two and they often didn’t agree on things. In 1986, the affair between Charles and Camilla started, after which Diana began something with James Hewitt. It wasn’t until 1992 that the royal family announced the couple had split, and it wasn’t until four years later, in 1996, that the divorce was official.

Death

Princess Diana was on her way to her hotel in Paris with her love Dodi Fayed on the day of her death. She died on August 31 1997, together with Fayed and their driver Henri Paul. Diana’s bodyguard, Trevor Rees-Jones, survived the accident. The entire world was in shock. Many theories about Diana’s death followed: was it a tragic accident, was it the fault of the paparazzi that were chasing them or was Prince Charles behind it? We’ll never know…
