This is how you safely put out a small grease fire
When you’re cooking, the last thing you want is for your pan to catch fire. Unfortunately, grease fires do happen sometimes and although it’s scary, it’s important to keep your wits about you. Knowing what to do in case of a grease fire can save you precious time. Luckily, we’re here to provide you with an easy way to put it out. You probably already own the only product you need.
The product in question is everyone’s favourite baking and cleaning product: baking soda!
Baking soda
It’s true: you really can use this product for everything. Baking, cleaning and now putting out fires as well. Sprinkle the flames in your pan with the powder and then cover the pan with a lid. Covering the pan will make sure that the flames can only use the oxygen within the pan. The baking soda releases carbon dioxide, which causes the fire to go out more quickly.
Water and fire
Wait until the pan has cooled down completely before taking off the lid. If you take the lid off too soon and the oil is still hot, the flame might ignite again. It’s also important to remember that you should never try to put out a grease fire with water. Putting water and oil together causes a reaction that will result in the fire getting much bigger, and that’s not what you want.
