Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild: the most expensive house on earth
We are very content with our own humble abodes, but in the spirit of “one can dream” we’d like to share this amazing house with you. The most expensive house on earth has an asking price of a whopping 410 million dollars. Of course, this is an insane amount of money, but you’ll see why when you take a look inside…
“One can dream” is definitely applicable here, because not a lot people will even be able to consider buying this huge property.
Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild
This doesn’t mean we can’t look at it, though, because it is a beautiful home. Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild in Nice, France, is a true gem! The gigantic villa was built between 1905 and 1912 by order of baroness Beatrice de Rothschild. The ex wife of Maurice de Ephrussi, a filthy rich banker, ordered the salmon coloured villa to be built on a hill with a view of the Mediterranean sea. Nine different gardens surround the house and they’re laid out as a sort of journey around the world. You travel from a French garden to an exotic one and from a Spanish garden to a Japanese one. Every garden has its own style, atmosphere, fountains, pergolas and vegetation.
Second World War
The baroness used the villa as a winter getaway and filled every room with beautiful furniture, art, expensive porcelain and countless other special objects. During the Second World War, after De Rothschild passed away, the building was and neglected and deserted for years. Luckily, the villa was restored to its former glory shortly after the war.
We’ve gathered a couple of pictures for you, so do enjoy the glory of this villa!
