Is your tumble dryer safe?

There’s a considerable chance that your tumble dryer is among those that present a fire hazard. Read here how that’s possible and what you can do about it!

Fire hazard
The government has been negligent when it comes to warning consumers about a couple of brands of tumble dryers. Several models from a few different brands that were made between April 2014 and September 2015 are potentially unsafe and of low quality. In a few cases, a surplus of fluff and lint can come into contact with the heating element, which can cause a fire. Especially tumble dryers made by Whirlpool form a fire hazard. Over 120 of this manufacturer’s models can be linked to 750 house fires since 2004. Strangely enough, Whirlpool hasn’t recalled their models, but the company did offer to check the dryers.

Online checker
There’s an online checker that anyone who has a Indesit, Hotpoint or Creda tumble dryer manufactured between April 2004 and September 2015 can use to find out if their dryer poses a fire hazard. You can also use the website to apply for a free modification of your dryer. The manufacturer has issued a warning: if you own one of the models from the list, you shouldn’t let it run without being there to supervise it.
