Got an itch? You might have bedbugs: these are the symptoms

Symptoms

Although it’s possible to see the tiny creatures with the naked eye, they’re usually so well-hidden that you won’t normally see them. So, if you’re suffering from these symptoms, search a little better (like beneath your mattress).

  • You’ve got bites without a tiny dot in the middle. With mosquito bites, you’ve often got a teeny tiny dot in the middle of the bite, but this isn’t the case with bedbug bites. They’re small red bites without a clear, defined centre.
  • You’ve been bitten on your belly and back. Mosquitos often bite you in your exposed arms and legs, but bedbugs like to creep around under your sheets. So, if you have bites on your back and belly, this might be a sign you’ve got bedbugs.
  • You’ve got multiple bites close together. A mosquito usually bites once in one spot, but a bedbug bites multiple times in a row. If you have multiple bites (like in a row or a circle), you might be dealing with bedbugs.

Research

Do you have any of these symptoms? Then you should go on a hunt for the tiny critters. Get a torch and turn over your mattress to see if you have these nasty creatures in your home. If this is the case, you should call pest control, because washing your sheets usually isn’t enough to get rid of them. Your mattress might be full of them and your wardrobe or walls might also have been infested.
