It might seem impossible, but it’s actually very easy to catch fruit flies!

We all know prevention is better than cure. If you don’t want fruit flies in your home, it’s important to keep your home neat, take out the trash regularly, and not leave overripe fruit lying in the fruit bowl. Unfortunately, though, even if you do all of these things right, you might still see some fruit flies flying around every now and then. You can run after them with the vacuum cleaner, but then you’re just fighting a running battle. The following tips are super easy, and you will catch those fruit flies in no time.

You probably already own everything you need.

Apple cider vinegar

Got a problem? Apple cider vinegar will probably be the solution you’re looking for in a lot of cases. It’s so useful for so many different things! But did you know you can also use apple cider vinegar to catch fruit flies? Fill a glass to one third with apple cider vinegar and cover it with cling film. Keep the cling film in place with an elastic band. Use a toothpick to prick holes in the foil and put the glass in a place that usually has a lot of fruit flies. Fruit flies can’t resist the smell of apple cider vinegar and before you know it you’ve caught a ton of them in the glass.

Vinegar and dish soap

Have you tried the apple cider vinegar trick, but do your fruit flies seem to be immune to the stuff? Add a few drops of dish soap to the vinegar and then cover the glass with the cling film again. The soap will cut the surface tension of the vinegar which means the flies will sink and drown.

Paper and a piece of fruit

Place a bit of fruit in a glass and roll a piece of paper in the form of a cone as in the picture above. Place the narrowest part of the paper cone into the glass. The fruit flies will be able to fly down into the glass, but they won’t be able to get out again.
