What do you use to brush your teeth?

Brushing your teeth is an important daily ritual. You get up in the morning and you brush your teeth and when you go to bed at night you do the same. Perhaps you even give your teeth a good cleaning three times a day. But do you use an electric toothbrush or do you do it manually?

This is the best way to keep your teeth as healthy and clean as possible.

Gum inflammation

Proper dental hygiene is very important. It will reduce the risk of gingivitis, also known as gum inflammation. With a bit of help from a dental hygienist this inflammation can usually be cured, but prevention is better than cure, of course. To do that, you have to take proper care of your teeth, which is why dentists recommend brushing your teeth two or three times a day. But what kind of toothbrush should you be using?

Electric toothbrush

British dentists Mike Heffernan and Toby Edwards-Lunn explain in The Daily Telegraph: “Electric toothbrushes are infinitely better at removing the sticky plaque from your teeth. [Plaque] cannot simply be wiped off. It needs to be actively removed. An electric toothbrush will put in the elbow grease for you, leaving you free to concentrate on … your brushing technique.”

Brushing technique

An electric toothbrush head that can turn both ways is the best option according to the dentists. They also explain that you should keep the toothbrush at a 45 degree angle to the line of your gums. Make sure you don’t skip any of the three external surfaces of your teeth. Give all of the sides the same amount of attention and don’t forget the place where your teeth connect to the gum. It’s also important to make sure your toothbrush is always fully charged. This way the head can rotate at the perfect speed. The last thing to keep in mind is that you shouldn’t push the brush down on your teeth and gums too hard, because this can cause lasting damage.
