Water that’s been left out all night is not exactly fresh anymore!

Do you put a glass of water on your bedside table before going to sleep each night so you can drink it in the morning? We applaud you for thinking of a drinking a glass of water when you’re getting up, but it isn’t a very smart idea to drink water that has been sitting out all night.

For a lot of people, drinking water is the first thing they do in the morning. This is a good idea for a number of different reasons: it boosts your digestion, it’s a good remedy against headaches and it helps to get rid of waste in your body. That’s why experts recommend drinking a glass of water in the morning. Drinking from a glass that’s been sitting on your bedside table might be convenient, but it isn’t very good for you: research shows that microbes can pollute the water.

Bacteria

When water comes into contact with air, like it does when it sits out for a couple of hours, carbon dioxide will start to react with the water, which lowers the pH a bit. The chemical composition of the water has been changed and that can influence the taste and the way your body reacts to it. Plus, the water has been exposed to bacteria and dust the entire night; this can cause it to taste differently and it can expose your body to pollutants. The solution? Put the water in a bottle!
