Can you still use last year’s sunscreen? This is the answer!

Test

They tested five high-quality SPF 50+ sunscreens for children: Eucerin Kids Sun, Nivea Sun Kids, Garnier Ambre Solaire Kids, Solait Kids and Aptonia Kids. “A year later we tested them again after imitating the exact conditions of the first test.” During the year, the lotions were subjected to both high and low temperatures and were frequently opened during a two week period. “The test showed that all products still had an SPF of 50+ and had retained their UVA protection,” Lievens explains. “That means our test shows that sunscreens can be used for longer than a year.”

Check

So, you don’t have to throw away your bottle of sunscreen immediately, but it is important to keep a few things in mind. For example, you should store the bottle in question in a specific way: “Don’t leave the bottle open after use and do place it in the shade,” Lievens advises. She also urges people to store the product in a cool, dry place – away from the sun – during the year. Furthermore, there are a few things you should check before you use the product. If it smells strange or the texture has changed completely, you should throw it out anyway. “But if it seems fine, you can definitely still use it.”
