This will help you resist all temptations and eat healthy

The New Year has only just started and that means that everyone is (briefly) paying attention to what they eat. During the day, we’re not having that much trouble keeping to our resolution to eat healthy, but at night that urge to eat the entire contents of the fridge raises its ugly head.

Why is it so much more difficult to eat healthy at night?

Evening
You start off your day with a bowl of low-fat quark, muesli and some fruit. In the afternoon, you have an omelet with vegetables, and in between you’re chowing down on some carrots. Satisfied and happy with how you’ve done, you come home at night and prepare a bowl of rice with loads of veggies and chicken. You did so well today! Unfortunately, an hour after dinner, you get the irresistible urge to eat everything you can find in your fridge and cupboards. Why does this keep happening?

Self control
According to researchers of Texas A&M University, this is due to the fact that you still have a considerable dose of self control at the start of the day, and this self control runs out as the day gets on. Apart from that, the researchers say it’s a fact that you always want things you cannot have. If you’ve forbidden yourself from eating any food that’s rich in carbs, chances are you desperately want some crisps. That’s why the researchers recommend to allow yourself some ‘guilty’ food during the day, to prevent a huge binge later that evening.
