This is the surprising reason why you should drink chocolate milk after exercising

Who wouldn’t want some chocolate milk after exercising?

Drinking chocolate milk after exercising?! It might sound like the opposite of what you’re supposed to do after you’ve just burnt a load of calories, but there’s actually a very good reason why you should drink this chocolate-y drink after an intense workout. And let’s be honest, isn’t this the best news you’ve heard all day?

Who would’ve thought!

Chocolate milk with semi-skimmed milk

No, this isn’t some myth; it’s actually true! Scientific research from Cornell University in America has proven that drinking chocolate milk after a workout is beneficial to you. One glass of chocolate milk made from semi-skimmed milk contains the exact right combination of carbohydrates and protein. And these are precisely the type of nutrients your body can use very well after an intense bout of exercise.

Muscle recovery

Dietician Lisa Hayim also confirmed the findings shared in the American study. The dietician explains that the nutrients in chocolate milk with semi-skimmed milk are perfect for after a workout. Among other things, the carbs, protein, fats, water and electrolytes in this drink help our muscles to recover more quickly and these also nutrients also help muscle building.

Expensive sport drinks

At the moment further research is being conducted to find out to what extent semi-skimmed chocolate milk is better than those expensive protein-rich sports drinks. What has been confirmed, though, is that drinking this chocolate-y drink is at least just as good for you as drinking a sports drink: chocolate milk “provides either similar or superior results when compared to placebo or other recovery drinks.” And it’s way tastier! We know what we’re drinking after our workout this afternoon!
