Three unexpected ingredients you should actually store in the freezer

Don’t keep these ingredients in a kitchen cabinet; keep them in the freezer!

Just bought some ice lollies at the supermarket? Of course, you put them in the freezer as soon as you get home. Got some leftovers after dinner? Those get deposited in the freezer as well. But have you ever considered storing a bag of flour in the freezer? Probably not, because why would you? Well, there’s actually a good reason for it!

Here are some food products you’re better off storing in the freezer, too.

Longer shelf life

We’re not really surprised when someone tells us they put spinach in the freezer, but it’s a little strange when people decide to put a load of baking ingredients in the freezer. Yet it might be worth considering. Some dry ingredients have a much longer shelf life when you store them in a cool place. For example, you can store all types of flour in the freezer to ensure they will last a lot longer.

Baking soda and baking powder are also very well suited to being kept in the freezer. In fact: it’s much better to do so than to keep them in a cupboard. Baking soda and baking powder will last a lot longer if you store them in a cold spot. Do make sure you put these ingredients in plastic containers that close off properly. Otherwise, the soda and powder will absorb the other smells in the freezer and that won’t do your baked goodies any good. One last tip: it’s also a very good idea to store yeast in the freezer. Yeast retains its lifting power much better if you freeze it.
