4. Pasta
Just like with rice, freezing pasta doesn’t exactly improve its quality. Quite the opposite, actually. Although it might seem like a good idea to cook a big pot of pasta at the start of the week to then freeze it for the coming days, you’d better not do this. Once the pasta has defrosted, it’ll lose all of its usual starchy consistency. The result? Soggy, limp pasta. Yikes. You can freeze the pasta sauce, though. So, you can make the sauce ahead of time and then cook the pasta separately each time.
5. Mayonnaise
Creamy sauces like mayonnaise don’t freeze well. Cream doesn’t like to be frozen, which means your yummy mayonnaise will be anything but yummy when you defrost it. It’ll be lumpy like cottage cheese instead. That’s a pity, so just store it in the fridge!
6. Potatoes
Potatoes don’t need a lot of looking after, but putting them in the freezer is bound to bring you disappointment. Uncooked potatoes will take on a grainy consistency when frozen, which makes them pretty much inedible to anyone who likes a good, tasty potato. Just store them in a dark cupboard.
7. Canned food
It’s entirely unnecessary to freeze canned food. These cans contain enough preservatives of themselves, which means there’s no need to freeze them. Plus, if you put a can of food in the freezer, there’s a good chance it’ll explode. Opened a can but don’t need all of its contents right away? Then you could take the leftover food out of the can and freeze it in some Tupperware.
