THIS is why you should put a cotton ball at the bottom of your trash can!

cotton ball

We never thought of this use for a cotton ball!

If you always diligently separate your trash (put paper with paper and plastic with plastic) it might take a while before your trash can is completely full and you take it out. Unfortunately, food scraps can start to smell pretty bad…

This is the perfect trick for us!

Forget
It can help to put some baking soda in your trash can on a regular basis, but you do have to remember to do this if you want it to work. If you want a solution that you can ‘forget about’ after one time, a cotton ball is the solution for you. Dip a cotton ball in some essential oil and then deposit it at the bottom of your trash can before putting in the bag.

Miracle product
By simply dipping a cotton ball in oil and placing it at the bottom of your trash can you can prevent nasty smells. After placing the first one, you should replace it roughly once every 2 weeks. Don’t just pick any old oil, though, because different types of oil have different uses. Pick one that suits your needs best.

  • Lemongrass oil counteracts the smell of your trash.
  • Tea tree oil and citrus oil (especially grapefruit) prevent the spreading of bacteria.
  • Neem oil keeps insects at bay.
