Does your clean laundry smell musty? Use this surprising product to get a fresh smell!

From musty to fresh

Professor Steve Anderton from the University of Edinburgh was fed up with musty laundry and investigated a couple of products he thought could freshen up your clothes. Three of these products were a huge success. Anderton shared them with the rest of the world so now we can all benefit from his research.

Black coffee

Has your favourite dark jeans faded a bit because you washed them a little too often? Add a cup of black coffee to the washing machine and then wash the jeans at your usual cycle at a mild temperature. Faded spots on the jeans will be freshened up by the coffee. This means your jeans will look as good as new!

Vodka

It might sound strange at first, but it’s actually pretty logical when you think about it: the alcohol in vodka has an antibacterial quality. That means it should be able to remove all of the nasty smells as well as the bacteria from your clothes. Plus, vodka doesn’t have a specific smell (like other types of alcohol) and it won’t leave any stains in your clothes. It is important to be a little careful with vodka, though. Don’t use it in combination with fragile materials like satin because the alcohol might affect the colour.

Milk

It’s terribly annoying: you’re busy writing something using a pen and then suddenly you’ve got a big ink stain on your new shirt. Ink stains are very stubborn and hard to get out. Well, not anymore, because milk is the solution! The lactose in the milk absorbs the blue colour of the ink. With this tricks, ink stains are no match for you anymore. They’ll be gone in a jiffy!
