What should you do with the grossest items in your home?
Sometimes we wonder whether it’s worth cleaning an item in our home or if we should just throw it in the bin straight away. Some things are big sources of bacteria, whether you clean them or not. That’s why we’ve made a handy overview which shows you exactly what you should do with the six grossest items in your home. Can you still save it by cleaning it or does it need replacing?
Do you ever throw these things out?
Kitchen sponge
Bin it. A sponge is super handy to clean things in your kitchen with, but it’s also a huge source of bacteria. To keep it fresh for as long as possible, it’s best to wring it out after every use and to let it dry properly. When the sponge stinks or starts to tear, it’s definitely time to throw it out. Washing it is of no use whatsoever.
Shower curtain
Clean it. Put your shower curtain into the washing machine along with a towel. The towel functions as a kind of sponge and together with the detergent, it will rub your shower curtain clean again. This can do the trick for a while, but when you eventually have stains on the curtain your washing machine can’t seem to get out again, it’s time to replace the curtain.
Dishcloth
Clean it. If you just rinse a dishcloth under some running water and then wring it out, you’re not removing all of the filth. That’s why it’s important to wash your dishcloths in the washing machine on a regular basis. When after a while the dishcloths retain a slightly foul smell even after washing, you know it’s time to buy some new ones. Until then, washing them will do the trick.
