3. Not cleaning out your fridge regularly
Cleaning out your fridge doesn’t just help to declutter it and create more space; it also prevents you or members of your family from accidentally eating foods that have expired. This is especially relevant if you have children who tend to grab food from the fridge. Integrate checking the fridge for expired foods into your weekly cleaning routine. This way, you won’t lose sight of what’s going on in your fridge and it doesn’t take a lot of time at all.
4. Not cleaning up after handling raw meat
Not cleaning the tools you’ve used to handle or prepare raw meat might lead to you or your family getting sick. Using the same knife you used on raw chicken to chop your vegetables is always a bad idea. Cross-contamination can happen in a moment and no one likes to deal with food poisoning. Always wash your knives and cutting board with soapy water immediately after handling raw meat.
5. Ignoring mildew and mould
You might think that mould and mildew is just something that makes your bathroom look a little dingy and unclean, but there’s much more to it than that. Mould and mildew can actually have negative effects on your health. Mould allergies might make you cough or make your eyes itch, for example. If you notice mould or mildew in your home, make sure to clean it so you don’t end up with an unhealthy home.
6. Not ventilating properly
Do you always open up a window when you’re cleaning? No? Well, you definitely should. Harsh cleaning products can have terrible effects. In fact, one study actually claimed that prolonged use of cleaning products can have the same effect on your lung function as smoking cigarettes. That’s bizarre! While this study looked at professional cleaners, it’s still smart to be gentle on your lungs even if you do not clean every day.
