Here’s how to properly clean your kitchen sink
We always thought we were keeping our kitchen sinks perfectly clean. Turns out, we were very wrong! Did you know that the average kitchen sink contains more bacteria than a toilet? Yikes! We’re definitely going to scrub our sinks a little more often because just doing the dishes in the sink every day isn’t enough t clean it. In fact, it only makes it dirtier. Gross…
This is how you properly clean it.
Kitchen sink
A lot of people think the kitchen sink remains clean by itself because of all the times you wash your hands or do the dishes in it. Unfortunately, that soap isn’t enough to attack all of the bacteria in your sink. Every time you rinse the chopping board you just used to cut raw meat on, or when you wash the raw egg of your hands, bacteria are left behind in the sink. Plus, it’s a nice and toasty environment for them because new warm water keeps running through it. An ideal breeding ground for bacteria! That’s why it’s important to disinfect your sink every single day.
Scrub
To really clean your sink, you’ll need a little bit of elbow grease because you have to scrub quite a bit. Luckily, your sink is made out of strong material, which means it can take a few knocks. So, pull on those rubber gloves because we’re going to get busy.
This is what you need:
- Baking soda
- Water
- Dish soap
- Rubber gloves
- Sponge or microfiber cloth
This is how you do it:
- Make sure the sink is empty.
- Sprinkle baking soda into the sink. Baking soda functions as a kind of scrub, which means you’ll use it to scrub away any food scraps, but you won’t damage the material of the sink.
- Pull on the rubber gloves and squeeze a little bit of dish soap onto your sponge or cloth.
- Add a little bit of hot water to the sink and start scrubbing. If the water from your tap doesn’t get hot enough, boil a little water beforehand but be careful not to burn your hands.
- Start scrubbing on the edges of the sink and work your way in. Scrub every spot for about 20 seconds. By working your way to the middle, you make sure the dirty water doesn’t flow over spots you’ve already cleaned. Use your fingers to feel around for any dirt. Scrub some more in those places.
- Rinse with water.
- And that’s it! You’ve got yourself a clean kitchen sink!
